Create a dedicated foundation for your fire pit with our 120cm diameter corten Steel Fire Pit Base Ring.

Designed for installation on grass, soil or gravel, the ring provides a simple and attractive way to create a defined, level fire pit area without the need for permanent concrete or paving.

Simply position the ring in your desired location, secure it into the ground, and fill the 15cm-deep base with gravel. Once filled, the gravel creates a stable, non-combustible surface for your fire pit to sit on while the 5mm thick corten steel ring creates a clean, defined edge around the area.

Over time, the corten steel will develop its characteristic natural patina, allowing the base to complement the look of your Corten steel fire pit and blend naturally into outdoor surroundings.

Kindle and Kin

Premium steel fire pits for outdoor living

Every Kindle and Kin fire pit is built from thick steel for durability, heat retention, and years of outdoor use. Corten steel models develop a natural patina; our Harlo range spans compact to grand sizes so you can match your patio, courtyard, or entertaining area.

Construction

Thick steel that lasts

Quality outdoor fire pits rely on substantial steel—typically around 5–6mm—to handle repeated heating and cooling without warping. That means a steadier burn, better radiant heat, and a fire pit that stays looking intentional season after season.

Outdoor ready

Designed for Australian backyards

From drainage to optional weatherproof covers and lids, Kindle and Kin fire pits are built for real-world use. Corten steel can stay outdoors year-round; simple ash removal and occasional cleaning keep your fire pit ready whenever you are.

Questions about Fire Pit Base Ring

The patina usually begins developing within a few weeks of outdoor exposure.

Depending on the climate and weather conditions, the full protective patina typically develops over several months.

During this time the colour gradually changes from a darker steel tone to the warm, earthy rust finish that corten steel is known for.

At Kindle and Kin we kick-start the process by applying a special treatment prior to shipping. This means your fire pit or wood storage unit will be developing its patina and looking great when you receive it.

Fire pits should always be placed on a stable, non-combustible surface.

Suitable surfaces include:

  • Pavers
  • Compacted gravel
  • Stone
  • Heat proof surface

Avoid placing the fire pit directly on timber decking, grass or other flammable surfaces.

Many customers create a small dedicated fire pit area using gravel or stone, which also helps define a beautiful gathering space in the backyard.

Yes. Corten steel is specifically designed to perform well outdoors.

Once the protective patina forms, it helps protect the steel from deeper corrosion. This makes corten steel a popular choice for:

• outdoor sculptures
• landscaping features
• architectural elements
• fire pits

With normal use, a corten steel fire pit can last for many years outdoors.

Maintaining a fire pit is simple.

Basic care includes:

• removing ash after fires
• keeping the fire pit clean and dry when possible
• using a cover when not in use

These simple steps will help keep your fire pit in great condition for years.
