Our Story

Built from a love of fire, family, and the moments that bring us together

Kindle and Kin designs premium outdoor fire pits and accessories for Australian backyards - built for warmth, designed for connection

Here is how we started, what we care about, and the ideas behind every Kindle and Kin piece.

It started around the fire

Kindle and Kin grew from a simple love of being outdoors with the people who matter most—especially around a fire.

Weekends camping set the tone: when the flames settled into a steady glow, conversations deepened and laughter lingered. We kept chasing that feeling—not only away from home, but in our own backyards.

Everyday spaces, not just special occasions

We created Kindle and Kin to bring that same warmth into everyday life. Outdoor spaces can invite connection, calm, and a little indulgence without needing a grand occasion.

Whether it is a quiet evening together, roasting marshmallows with kids, or stories with friends, we want the setup to feel inviting, elevated, and effortless.

More than a fire pit

Our fire pits are designed as a centrepiece for gathering—for slowing down, being present, and reconnecting.

At Kindle and Kin, the fire is only the beginning.

Connection should not be reserved for special occasions—your outdoor space can invite it, every day.

FAQs

Kindle and Kin was created around a simple idea — bringing people together around fire.

Our products are designed to help create moments of connection with family and friends in the backyard, whether that’s a quiet winter evening, cooking over the fire, or gathering with a glass of wine under the stars.

We focus on simple, durable designs that feel at home in natural outdoor spaces.

Yes — and that’s intentional.

Our fire pits are built from thick steel so they are strong, stable and built to last. Most of our fire pits weigh around 50+kg, which helps them sit securely in place during use.

Because of their weight, we recommend positioning the fire pit where you plan to use it before lighting your first fire.

Choosing the right size fire pit mostly depends on the size of your outdoor space and how many people you expect to gather around the fire.

All Harlo fire pits share the same design — the main difference is the diameter and the scale of the fire they create.

70cm – Compact
This size is ideal for smaller patios, courtyards or more intimate spaces. It provides a beautiful contained fire and is perfect for smaller gatherings or where space is limited.

100cm – Original
The 100cm Harlo is our most popular size and suits the majority of backyards. It creates a generous fire with excellent heat and comfortably becomes the centrepiece for gatherings with family and friends.

130cm – Grand
The 130cm Harlo makes a large visual statement and is ideal for bigger outdoor spaces or entertaining areas. It allows for a larger fire and works well when you regularly host larger groups.

If you’re unsure, the 100cm size is the best all-round choice for most homes — large enough to create a great fire while still fitting comfortably in typical backyard spaces.

A quality fire pit should be made from thick steel that can withstand repeated heating and cooling cycles.

Thin steel fire pits can warp or deteriorate quickly. Higher-quality fire pits are typically made from 5mm to 6mm steel, which provides excellent durability and longevity.

Thicker steel also helps retain heat and creates a more substantial, stable fire pit.

Corten steel is a special type of weathering steel designed to develop a protective surface patina when exposed to the elements.

It is commonly used in architecture, landscaping and outdoor design because it:

• is extremely durable
• requires minimal maintenance
• develops a beautiful natural finish

For fire pits, corten steel offers the perfect balance of strength, longevity and outdoor character.
